Challenge: Elevating Tradition with Contemporary Design
At Showblock, we embarked on a remarkable journey, embracing the challenge of creating a custom structure for the UK’s leading gardening charity, the prestigious RHS (The Royal Horticultural Society) at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Innovative Design: Where Tradition Meets Contemporary Elegance
The retail team at RHS desired a structure that would harmonise with their heritage while also attracting a younger generation, aligning with the RHS brand’s transition. The structure needed to accommodate three distinct spaces for retail and membership. To meet these requirements, we proposed a modern 360-access view structure that strikes a balance between contemporary design and respect for RHS tradition. The different sections were seamlessly integrated through a custom angled roof header.
Form Meets Function: Customised Excellence across 149 m2
We introduced custom modular deck panels on the exterior and retail-style shelving with shop fit lighting on the interior. The colour scheme seamlessly integrated with the RHS brand identity. The structure was not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional.
Meeting Challenges Head-On: Speed and Sustainability
RHS attends three events each year, requiring us to rebuild the structure each time. Every single time, we were able to complete the project on-site in just two days, with an impressive derig time of one day. Sustainability was a key focus of our approach, as we aimed to create a durable structure that could be used for an unlimited period of time. This not only provided long-term usability, but also significantly contributed to efforts to protect the planet by eliminating the need for annual reconstruction.
This project perfectly illustrates the exceptional adaptability of Showblock structures in aligning with the brand while also capturing the essence of their brand.
Lanzante, a British luxury automotive brand, aimed to elevate its presence at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. We collaborated with both the Lanzante team and their architects, OB Architecture, to create a sustainable, reusable pavilion that would redefine event design standards.
Design and Features:
The 735 sq ft cantilever pavilion was set across two storeys, offering a VIP lounge and terrace with trackside views. Additional satellite structures displayed cars and formed a reception area. The design seamlessly blended interior and exterior, mirroring the lush surroundings, while materials and a monochrome palette ensured the cars remained the focal point. The cars stood upon white monolithic plinths with track lighting suspended above, replicas of those in the Lanzante showroom, whilst the pavilion’s double timber joists were a subtle nod to the exposed structure in the brand’s HQ.
Sustainability and Reusability:
The Lanzante pavilion was designed to be dismounted with nothing going to waste. All materials and framed modules were carefully stored in our warehouse for future use, and minimal maintenance was needed after the 2022 festival. The design’s adaptability allows for expansions and improvements each year. From the structural steelwork to the paint choices, every element was thoughtfully selected to meet durability and sustainability goals.
High-Quality Craftsmanship:
The pavilion showcased the same craftsmanship as permanent structures, emphasising durability and longevity. Materials of the highest quality, seamless joints, and a clean aesthetic reflective of the company brand made it stand apart.
Charlotte Lanzante commented, ‘OB Architecture, Showblock and Bang & Olufsen exceeded our expectations in designing a reusable space that speaks to our brand aesthetic and ethos. The design of the pavilion celebrates the care and attention to detail for which Lanzante is known in the engineering, restoration and servicing of supercars, whilst communicating our commitment to reuse and longevity.’
The Vision: Crafting a Three-Storey Showcase
In the realm of automotive events, the Goodwood Festival of Speed stands as one of the UK’s iconic festivals. BMW set an audacious goal in 2023 – to create not one, not two, but three levels of structures to house their prestigious cars at the Festival. This vision posed formidable challenges in terms of weight loading and on-site installation.
Speed and Precision: Meeting the Festival’s Energy
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is renowned for its fast-paced environment, demanding a level of energy and precision to match. In line with our commitment to excellence, we prefabricated these structures in our warehouse, ensuring a swift, two-day installation for 17 separate blocks.
The Innovation: Architectural Mastery
What set these three-storey structures apart was the innovative use of high-end architectural materials. Clear span glazing and multi-wall polycarbonate were employed to create a visually striking environment. We took it a step further by engineering a custom cantilevered roof that extended over the third level.
Awe-Inspiring Showcases
Every deck level showcased a stunning collection of BMW vehicles, captivating festival attendees and setting a new standard for automotive presentations. We had anticipated the installation during the structural engineering process at the design stage, ensuring a smooth execution on-site.

Showblock designed and orchestrated an extraordinary roadshow that spanned across Italy, France, Monaco, Spain, Germany, and the UK.
A Single Lorry, Two Supercars, and Transformative Blocks
The roadshow idea was conceived by Blueprint Partners. The concept relied on ingenious logistics to transport two supercars encapsulated in two Blocks using a single lorry. The first Block served as a dazzling showcase for the McLaren car, while the second seamlessly transformed into a hospitality space. This unique setup allowed for a brand showcase and test drive experience at each of the 10 stops across Europe.
From Concept to Reality: Collaboration and Innovation
The cars were picked up directly from the McLaren global headquarters in Woking. This streamlined the transportation process and eliminated the need for an additional transporter. The cars were transported inside the Blocks using secured points, ensuring a safe journey across Europe. This approach was also cost-effective, as only two Showblock crew members were needed for setup, and the Blocks remained fitted during the 6 weeks of the tour.
Bespoke Design and Overcoming Site Challenges
The structures design featured clear-span glazing, graphic panels, flashes of orange reminiscent of the McLaren brand, mirrored ceilings, and LED strip lighting, creating a distinctive yet subtle look. Showblock demonstrated its ability to overcome construction challenges in marinas, including loads and wind, proving expertise in managing complex logistics and executing events in any location.
The Coca-Cola activation covered an area of approximately 20m x 20m. It was constructed with six double-stacked Blocks and executed by our Irish partner, Notions Creative. The innovative design, created by the agency Verve Live, included custom 5-meter high CNC’d Coke bottle silhouettes on both sides. It also featured a central DJ booth, interactive games and giveaways in the lower blocks, and VIP viewing areas in the upper blocks. The Blocks’ sleek design and modularity allowed to create an eye-catching structure that stood out and offered a superior experience for festival-goers.
Short Installation Time
A major challenge faced during this project was the limited installation timeframe. There were multiple concerts scheduled leading up to the festival, which significantly reduced the available time for setting up the activation. Despite this constraint, Notions Creative was able to successfully meet the festival’s deadline, installing the structures within 2 days, thanks to the modular nature of the Showblock system.
Client Feedback
The client expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the hard work and dedication, stating:
“We wanted to send a note to thank you so much for yet again, such an incredible activation. Nothing was too much trouble (even our very short notice requests!) and you guys did such a beautiful job. We had really great feedback from the Coke Senior Leadership team too which makes it even better”
The third edition of the Icons of Porsche took place on the 25th and 26th of November in the heart of the Dubai Design District. This unique event gathered fans of classic cars, art, and culture. At the center of it all were 60 structures from Showblock, adding vibrancy and architectural style to the landscape.
Merging Creativity with Automotive Excellence
Creative agency Lightblue’s goal was to create a unique and memorable atmosphere for Porsche. From the initial concept to the final installation, our team meticulously turned the brief into detailed technical drawings. Each structure was then carefully fabricated at one of our UAE production facilities, with each detail displaying quality finishes. A total of 60 structures, varying in size, colours, and configuration, were installed in the Dubai skyline.
Form Meets Function: Precision Craftsmanship
The fusion of colour and design provided an ideal backdrop for automotive enthusiasts. The entire festival was conceived using Showblock modular structures, showcasing the versatility of the solution. Various areas were created, from mezzanines, stage sets, exhibition spaces, car displays, to urban pop-ups, and photobooths, effectively merging form and function.
Tackling Challenges: Coordination and Execution
Transporting and overseeing the on-site installation of 60 structures required exceptional coordination and execution. The scale and timeframe for the installation necessitated the operation of two cranes simultaneously to lift the structures. Due to the structures being pre-fitted in advance in the workshop, we were able to save significant time during the onsite installation.
